We played well, considering.
And the audience was great. They saw this as an interactive performance.
Carlson: Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. We're really happy to be here.
Voice from Audience: And we're happy you're here.
Another: Except that it's damn cold in here.
Carlson (desperately): Well, we'll try and warm things up with a medley from Chicago.
Later, after the medley was well received and someone had to be stopped from marching around the room to The Olympic Spirit, Carlson introduced the next piece: Some of you may be old enough to remember a group called the Tijuana Brass.
Voice from Audience: Oooh, yes, I remember them. Do you remember them?
Carlson: Well, I bet you haven't heard them recently.
Voice: Oh, yes we have. They were here last week.
Pause, while Carlson admitted himself defeated, and then we played that medley.
Afterwards, the voice from the audience said, "You know, they were almost as good as the real ones."
The BSO doesn't get that kind of response.

Love the write ups of the band concert rest home experience! Isn't music wonderful? Everyone can bring their own background to the concert and have an awesome personal experience. Does Jerry still play in the band? If so what instrument does he play?
Sounds like a great opener this year! What a rowdy crowd though. next year I recommend you hire body guards in sunglasses and fancy black suits.
Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass were great. They performed "the Teabury shuffle", and "This Guy's In Love with You" and many other great songs. I have several of their albums. Contrary to your heckler, they haven't performed in many years.
